Living sustainably: Learning to live with Less...
We live in a world that constantly tells us we need more.
More clothes. More gadgets. A bigger home. The newest phone.
Every ad promises that one more purchase will finally make our lives easier, happier, or cooler.
But as someone who deeply cares about sustainability, I’ve started asking a very different question:
What is enough?
When people think of sustainability, they usually think of planting trees, recycling, or cutting down on plastic. But it’s also about our daily habits.
Every single thing we buy takes resources to make and ship across the world. When we constantly buy things we don't need, we put pressure on the planet. But we also put pressure on ourselves.
Ads are designed to make us feel like something is missing from our lives. But most of the time, nothing is missing at all.
What Do We Actually Need?
When you strip away the ads, human beings actually need very little to be truly happy:
• A safe place to live
• People we love and good friends
• Meaningful work and learning
• Good health and time in nature
• Laughter and quiet moments
When we stop filling our homes with extra stuff, we make room for what actually matters. We make room for experiences, conversations, creativity, and peace of mind.
Clutter in our living space often creates clutter in our minds. When you clear out the unnecessary things around you, life gets quieter and less stressful.
Living sustainably isn't about giving up everything or living with nothing. It’s about balance. It’s about knowing what is actually worth having.
Having less stuff doesn't mean having less of life.
It just means having more room for the things that make life worth living.
